Moises Moleiro 1904-1979

Moises Moleiro was a Venezuelan composer and pianist.  He was born in Zaraza in 1904. As a young boy in 1917 he studied piano with legendary pianist Manuel Martín Sansón. From 1922-1948 he worked for the Venezuelan ministry of the interior. In 1924 Moleiro took lessons with one of the greatest Venezuelan music teachers of the time such as Salvador Narciso Llamozas and Vicente Sojo. Moleiro was one of the co-founders of the Orfeon Lamas, the first mixed choir of the country. In 1933 he was a solfege teacher at the Escuela de Musica y Declamacion. In 1936-1971 Moleiro taught piano lessons at the Escuela de Musica y Declamacion. In 1974 Moleiro was the winner of the National Prize of Music. Moleiro’s music compositions include folk and ethnic elements.  He composed for piano as well as songs for voice and mixed choir.
